On 5 April 2016 the JRC presented the interactive and collaborative online European Energy Efficiency Platform. This beta platform is conceived to fill the gap opened by scattered data and fragmented knowledge resulting from a rapidly growing energy efficiency market. It is expected to be both a one-stop shop for information retrieval and a meeting point for experts to exchange data and reduce redundant activities.
Energy Service Companies
Frankfurt, DE — Wednesday, October 5, 2022 - 09:30
Given the challenge and urgency to reach the 2030 climate target and climate neutrality by 2050 and the very high energy prices, energy efficiency is the win-win solution.Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) are a major suppliers/implementer of energy efficiency solutions in particular in large projects in buildings, facilities and production plans (see).

The public sector is one of the key users of energy in Europe. Although, the relative energy consumption of the public sector is rather small, i.e. “only” about 5-10% of the total energy demand of European Member States, with an annual energy bill €47 billion (Borg & Co. et al. 2003), there are several reasons to focus on improving the energy performance of public buildings and public installations.

A survey was launched in support of a joint study by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency (C2E2)
Objective: To identify country-specific and regional barriers to investing in energy efficiency and to ascertain how these barriers can be overcome (with an emphasis on energy efficiency in industry)

This paper analyses the role of barriers preventing the worldwide take-up of a clean technology: the electrical arc furnace. It also identifies which barriers affect a parameter that summarises the combined effect of all of them. The first step, determination of the combined effect of the barriers, is carried out using a novel approach to model the diffusion of innovations.

This peer review paper presents a new mathematical approach to the diffusion of energy-efficient technologies using the diffusion of natural processes as an analogy. This approach is applied to the diffusion of the electric arc furnace in Japan. The main advantage offered by the new approach is the incorporation of an average effect of barriers to, and support measures for, innovation.

Results from this recent JRC study show that, in 2050, the energy consumption and direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of the European aluminium industry could be decreased by 21% and 66%, respectively, if the sector adopts innovative technological solutions instead of following a conservative technology deployment path.
