On 5 April 2016 the JRC presented the interactive and collaborative online European Energy Efficiency Platform. This beta platform is conceived to fill the gap opened by scattered data and fragmented knowledge resulting from a rapidly growing energy efficiency market. It is expected to be both a one-stop shop for information retrieval and a meeting point for experts to exchange data and reduce redundant activities.

Expectations are that broadband equipment will contribute considerably to the electricity consumption of households in European Community in the near future. Depending on the penetration level, the specifications of the equipment and the requirements of the service provider, a total European consumption of at least 50 TWh per year was estimated for the year 2015 for broadband equipment.

This peer review paper presents a new mathematical approach to the diffusion of energy-efficient technologies using the diffusion of natural processes as an analogy. This approach is applied to the diffusion of the electric arc furnace in Japan. The main advantage offered by the new approach is the incorporation of an average effect of barriers to, and support measures for, innovation.

The “One-stop-shops for energy renovations of buildings” report is the exploratory review of case studies of past and current one-stop-shops (OSS) with a primary focus on the EU Member States. One-stop-shops are transparent and accessible advisory tools from the client perspective and new, innovative business models from the supplier perspective.

This report has been produced by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) as a joint activity of several JRC Units. The purpose of this report is to provide insight in the development of methods for the assessment of energy performance of buildings based on geo-location data. The JRC has studied internal documents, project reports together with relevant information available in the public domain.

This guidebook provides guidance to local authorities in the elaboration and implementation of their Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP). This document supports local authorities in defining the key elements of the initiative, in building a Baseline Emission Inventory (BEI), performing a Risk and Vulnerabilities Assessment (RVA), and the guides them in the elaboration of the actions included in the plan.

Energy Service Companies
The public sector is one of the key users of energy in Europe. Although, the relative energy consumption of the public sector is rather small, i.e. “only” about 5-10% of the total energy demand of European Member States, with an annual energy bill €47 billion (Borg & Co. et al. 2003), there are several reasons to focus on improving the energy performance of public buildings and public installations.

This paper analyses the role of barriers preventing the worldwide take-up of a clean technology: the electrical arc furnace. It also identifies which barriers affect a parameter that summarises the combined effect of all of them. The first step, determination of the combined effect of the barriers, is carried out using a novel approach to model the diffusion of innovations.

This report aims at showing the present status of energy consumption in the EU-28, in the four main energy consuming sectors: residential, tertiary, transport and industry. During the last years, there have been efforts by the European Union to cut down on energy consumption and improve energy efficiency. From 2000 to 2014, there have been various initiatives that aim at reducing final energy consumption.
