On 5 April 2016 the JRC presented the interactive and collaborative online European Energy Efficiency Platform. This beta platform is conceived to fill the gap opened by scattered data and fragmented knowledge resulting from a rapidly growing energy efficiency market. It is expected to be both a one-stop shop for information retrieval and a meeting point for experts to exchange data and reduce redundant activities.
Energy Services and Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) Workshop
Improving energy efficiency is essential for a sustainable energy policy and a major component of climate change mitigation strategies. Energy services and energy service companies (ESCOs) help improve energy efficiency at the market level. Operational since the early 1990s, ESCOs have the necessary know-how to provide turnkey services and solutions that can significantly reduce energy cost while addressing market related barriers on the ground.
Organised by the Joint Research Centre and by the European Commission’s Science and Knowledge Service, the workshop will aim at looking at the latest developments of energy services markets in the EU and in particular will focus on energy service companies (ESCOs) and energy performance contracting (EPC) in the different sectors (e.g. residential buildings, industry and public buildings). The aim is to assess and identify the opportunities/ drivers and remaining barriers for ESCOs including the successful uptake of energy performance contracting in the Member States. It will also try to assess how the different provisions of Article 18 of the Energy Efficiency Directive have contributed to the development of energy services markets in the Member States.
