NREAPs and progress reports Data Portal

Energy Efficiency and Renewables Unit of the Directorate for Energy, Transport and Climate, Joint Research Centre, European Commission has launched the "NREAPs and progress reports Data Portal" providing access to more than 40 000 raw data from the EU Member States. The Data Portal gives access to 60 indicators in each EU Member States covering 3 sectors: Electricity, Heating/Cooling and Transport.

The data are sourced from EU Member States reporting as an obligation under Article 4 and Article 22 of the Directive 2009/28/EC : national renewable energy action plans (NREAPs) and their biennial progress reports. The Data Portal includes also the EU member States reporting on renewable energy at Eurostat SHARES Tool.

Renewable energy data (planned and achieved) are available for download in "excel" format easily to be imported and visualize from any web services as such or transformed in another appropriate format.

The Data Portal gives the possibility to download all NREAPs and progress reports data through:

  • Commission Energy Summer Package

    Updated Wednesday, 15 July, 2015

The package is an important step towards implementing the Energy Union strategy with a forward looking climate change policy, launched as one of the political priorities of the Juncker Commission in February 2015. Today's proposals give prominence to the "energy efficiency first" principle and put households and business consumers at the heart of the European energy market.

EU Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič said: "In the Energy Union strategy, we committed to empowering European consumers, creating a single well-functioning energy market, putting energy efficiency first and becoming the number one in renewables. Today, five months after the adoption of the Energy Union strategy, this Summer Package shows our determination to decarbonise our economy and to give consumers a central role in Europe's energy transition. It marks not only a new deal for consumers, but a new deal for Europe´s entire energy system."

EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete said: “Actions speak louder than words. Today we take a decisive step towards enshrining the EU's target of at least 40% emissions cut by 2030 into law. My message to our global partners ahead of the Paris climate conference: the EU stands by its international commitments.  And my message to investors, businesses and industry: invest in clean energy; it's here to stay and continue to grow. With these proposals, Europe is once again showing the way and leading the global transition to a low-carbon society."

  • Smart city platform aggregates, maps open data

By Stephanie Kanowitz, Dec 03, 2014 - GCN

Although the number of open, public data sets available is growing, IT managers find it difficult to combine or compare data in ways that would illuminate some of the chronic problems now facing local governments. But now cities have a one-stop shop for aggregating information in multiple data sets and applying time and location parameters that can deliver actionable analytics.

That’s the objective of Plenario, a tool launched in alpha form in September that aims to become the platform and framework for building smart city applications. Plenario lets users to study regions over specified time periods using all relevant data, regardless of original source, and represent the data as a single time series. By providing a hub for open data, the company said, Plenario lets city managers ask the right questions with as few constraints as possible.

  • European cities towards a Pact of Amsterdam

by: Lambert Van Nistelrooij, MEP on October 12, 2015 - EP Today

For years, cities in the ´Europe of regions´ played a supporting role. It has always been the regions which showed the diversity in Europe. ´Brussels´ paid less attention to the urban areas. At this time, when almost three out of four Europeans live in the cities, Europe needs to be there for the cities as well. Cities should be fully included in the mainstream policies. They should be seen as engines for economic growth and creators of jobs; cities as the frontrunners in Europe. It is about time to put forward the statement: Cities in Europe need to step out of the shadow and into the spotlights.

    (...)

We will soon launch, together with the European Commission, the first budget of 370 million euro available for ´Innovative Actions´ on city level, the so called ´City Deals´. This will not only result in just another declaration  on the Urban Agenda. We reach a new episode in the European cooperation: a ´Pact of Amsterdam’ under the Dutch Presidency. It is a future oriented agreement in which cities have the possibility to bring up their events and initiatives in the EU 2020 framework. The intention of the ´Pact´ is to create a bottom-up approach where cities are empowered. No longer in the shadow, but finally standing in the spotlights.
